The University is also famous for its theatre “Perehod” (Passage), which is frequently awarded at regional, national and international contests. In 2008 the theatre was awarded a Golden certificate at the international festival “UniFest-2008” for the play called “Killer’s night” based on a script by G.Triano. And in 2009 it was awarded a Certificate for “High theatrical culture” for the play “Larisa” based on a script by A.Ostrovsky.

The Perekhod Theater troupe are undergraduates and graduates of the RSU. The theater regularly takes part in festivals and competitions. The head director is Gennady Kirillov (graduated from Moscow State Institute of Theatrical Arts). The theater has staged many dramas, including The Love of Three Oranges (Leonid Filatov), Poor Loving Heart (vaudeville by Vladimir Sologub, dramatisations of Alexander Pushkin’sverse: Count Nulin, Household at Kolomna,and Angelo; On the Eve of the War (Boris Vasilyev),Anna Snegina (Sergey Esenin), Pussy’s Home (tale for children, bySamuil Marshak), musical farce Wedding (Mikhail Zoshchenko), Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Turbulent Years (based on To Live Forever, a play by Viktor Rozov, and Bulat Okudzhava’s songs), Larissa (after Alexander Ostrovsky’s Wothout a Dowry). The Perekhod actors also perform in professional theaters of Ryazan (plays My Happiness, The Naked Nature, Butterflies are Free).
