The opening of Confucius Institute in Ryazan State University named for S. Yesenin took place on the 20th of September. It is a landmark event for our university and the region. There are about 300 such educational institutions around the world; in Russia there are only 15 and they all are situated in the largest cities of the country.
Changchun University performed as a partner for the great academic project. Among the members of the Chinese delegation there were Party Secretary of Changchun University Zhu Ionzhen, First secretary for Education of the Chinese Embassy in Russia Wang Jingda, Head of Education Department of Jiling Province Lu Liangda, Head of International Office of Jiling Province Education Department Lju Juing, Director of Changchun University International Affairs and Culture Institution Wang Jinling and other representatives of the Chinese academic community.
The opening ceremony was preceded by an excursion around the main building of the university performed by the Head of Depatment of International Development O. Sulitsa and a press-conference during which the mass media representatives put questions to the memebers of the delegation and the administration of the university.
The solemn ceremony held in the convention hall of our university gathered lecturers and other people on staff, students, public people, representatives of mass media. The ceremony started with two national anthems and was mastered by N. Ledovskyh, Pro-rector for Strategic Development and Innovation Activity.
The opening speech was given to Rector of Ryazan State University I. Sheina, First secretary for Education of the Chinese Embassy in Russia Wang Jingda, Party Secretary of Changchun University Zhu Ionzhen, Minister of Education in Ryazan Region N. Bushkova, Head of Education Department of Jiling Province Lu Liangda, Deputy of Ryazan Municipal Duma, Chairman of Social and Demographics Policy Committee S. Isakov, Head of International Office of Jiling Province Education Department Lju Juing.
All spokesmen pointed at the importance of Confucius Institute in terms of the development of relations between the two counties and wished it further growth and prosperity. As it was mentioned, Confucius Institute will provide Chinese courses for the students, residents of our region and of neighbouring districts, will hold cultural and educational events for students, teachers and townspeople of Ryazan, organize cultural exchange.
As I. Sheina Said, ‘Confucius’ wisdom is the property of the world. Thanks to Confucius Institute this wisdom will penetrate the Russian culture and Russian wisdom will be passed to China’. In his turn Wang Jingda noted: ‘There are many events held in China, that help our people get acquainted with the Russian culture and traditions, induce young people to learn the Russian langusge’.
Students’ creative items contributed to the festive atmosphere. Songs in Chinese and Russian were performed by Marina Golovkina, Ksenia Timoshkova, Polina Maslova, Irina Chukhnenko and Svetlana Vikulina. Pop-group ‘Guslyary‘ perfrormed a Russian folk song.
Tatiana Bagaeva and Ksenia Timashkova demonstrated the guests a dance with wishu elements.
The punch line of the event was the unveiling of ‘Confucius Institution’ plate. This right was given to Rector of Ryazan State University I. Sheina and Party Secretary of Changchun University Zhu Ionzhen.
After the concert items Minister of Education in Ryazan Region N. Bushkova and Head of Education Department of Jiling Province Lu Liangda signed the Contract of Intents for collaboration in the sphere of education.
After the signing of the contract the guests visited the lecture halls of Confucius Institute.
Confucius Institute will contribute to teaching the Chinese language in Ryazan State University, Ryazan and Ryazan district, the development of cultural, educational and economic relations between the two countries.
